New Album: Dream Chaser

Dream Chaser is Nelson’s 79th solo studio album. It releases May 29, 2026, via Legacy Recordings.

The album includes “I Can’t Read Your Mind,” co-written with Bob Dylan, their first songwriting collaboration since 1993.

Nelson described the session: “Bob had an idea of ‘I can’t read your mind.’ We started with, ‘I can’t read your mind.’ The letters are too small. I handed that over to Buddy, and he took it and turned it into a good song. That’s pretty rare with Bob.”

The 10-track album centers on life on the road, relationships, and perseverance. Producer Buddy Cannon co-wrote six of the ten songs.

2026 Festival: 12 Dates, Smaller and More Significant

The 2026 tour is a sharp step back from last year’s 36-date run. Fewer dates means each show carries more weight.

Nelson said it plainly: “We don’t get to do as many shows as we used to, so every night out there means a little more.”

Bob Dylan co-headlined in 2024 and 2025 but does not appear on the 2026 lineup.

July 4 Picnic: The Biggest Night

The Fourth of July picnic in Austin is always Nelson’s showpiece date.

Crowell’s appearance connects directly to Nelson’s 2025 album Oh What a Beautiful World, built around twelve Crowell-penned songs.

How the Outlaw Festival Started

The first Outlaw Music Festival debuted in 2016 in Scranton, Pennsylvania. The sold-out show launched what became one of North America’s most prominent annual touring franchises.

Past lineups have included Chris Stapleton, Neil Young, Luke Combs, Bonnie Raitt, Tyler Childers, Sturgill Simpson, Van Morrison, and ZZ Top.

Rolling Stone called the 2025 edition “undoubtedly the most exciting and eclectic multi-artist festival of the summer amphitheater season by a wide margin.”

Ten years in. Still the standard.

Why Willie Nelson Still Matters

Nelson wrote “Crazy” for Patsy Cline in 1961. It became one of the most-covered songs in American music history.

Red Headed Stranger (1975) topped the country charts despite Nashville’s rejection. It remains the defining outlaw country album.

His 2023 album A Beautiful Time won Best Country Album at the Grammy Awards. Oh What a Beautiful World earned a 2026 Grammy nomination for Best Traditional Country Album.

Two Grammy cycles. Back-to-back. At 92.
